PANTHERS (Boys) & ELEMENTS (Girls)
At Alfred Deakin, we proudly offer the PANTHERS and ELEMENTS programs for students in Years 9 and 10. These unique, integrated programs combine Physical Education and English, working hand-in-hand to support the development of the whole student. Grounded in the core values of community, self-development, and leadership, the programs are designed to foster both personal growth and strong social connection.
Students engage in a blend of theory and practical lessons, with a strong focus on leadership, teamwork, and overall health and wellbeing. Activities include interactive workshops, community service projects, sport, and fitness, offering meaningful opportunities for students to challenge themselves and contribute to those around them.
Each program features two camps per year, designed to strengthen students’ sense of belonging and deepen their connection with their peers. These immersive experiences encourage collaboration, resilience, and shared achievement through a variety of physical and team-building challenges.
The PANTHERS and ELEMENTS groups play an important role in bringing our school community together. These student-led teams actively support whole-school events such as the Swimming Carnival, Athletics Carnival, and Walkathon. Through these experiences, students develop pride in their school, take on real leadership roles, and learn the value of teamwork and contribution.
Students interested in joining the PANTHERS and ELEMENTS programs are invited to apply in Term 3 of Year 8 through written application and practical trial sessions. This process allows staff to gain insight into each student’s strengths, motivations, and readiness to contribute meaningfully. Selection is not solely based on performance; we also consider how students positively influence group dynamics, show a willingness to support others, and demonstrate potential for personal growth. Students who may benefit from opportunities to build confidence, resilience, and self-esteem are encouraged to apply, as the program is designed to nurture leadership in many forms and provide a safe space to grow.
