English & EALD
EALD
At our school, we celebrate a rich tapestry of cultures and languages, with many students speaking a language other than English at home. To support these students in their educational journey, we offer dedicated EALD classes at each year level. EALD students attend a timetabled line of EALD with qualified EALD teachers.
Every effort is made to help students access the mainstream English curriculum. Some students with high support needs are in smaller class sizes with instruction paced to meet students’ language learning needs. These classes are designed to develop their English language proficiency.
English
The English curriculum helps students to engage imaginatively and critically with literature and appreciate its aesthetic qualities. Students explore ideas and perspectives about human experience and cultural significance, interpersonal relationships, and ethical and global issues within real-world and fictional settings. They are exposed to literature from a range of historical, cultural and social contexts. Through the study of texts, students develop an understanding of themselves and their place in the world. The English curriculum explores the richness of First Nations Australian voices and voices from wide-ranging Australian and world literature.
