Curriculum Structure

Alfred Deakin High School endeavors to deliver a quality curriculum, which provides a broad program as well as opportunities for specialisation and extension.


Year 7

Year 7 students will study a full year program in English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education and Health, and HaSS. They will also study a language other than English (LOTE) for the full year - choosing one from French, Japanese, and Indonesian, or Italian.

In addition students will experience some of the electives available in Years 8 - 10 by rotating through a term each of Art, Music, Design Technology and Food and Nutrition Studies. Students who are part of the Orchestra or Junior Performing Arts programs however complete these programs in place of the rotation through subjects.

Year 8

All students will study a full-year program of English, Maths, Science, HaSS, and Physical Education and Health. Students will also continue their study of the LOTE that was chosen in Year 7, and choose from a selection of electives, one each semester. These electives include  The Arts, Technology, Physical Education, Nutrition, Mathematics and Science. Selections are made during Term 3 for the following year. The current elective options are described in the Year 8 Elective Booklet.

Year 9 & Year 10

All students study a full two-year program of English, Maths, Science, Studies of Society and Environment, and Physical Education & Health.

Students then choose a program of 8 semester electives across the two years. These electives include  The Arts, Technology, Physical Education, Nutrition, Mathematics and Science. Selections are made during Term 3 for the following year. The current elective options are described in the Year 9 & 10 Elective Booklet.
